Hi, we know all of you are curious to know what is the development status of Neo & Swap. So here’s the latest update for you all -
We have concluded the development aspect of all the electronic components excluding the new interactive lights on boards’ top surface.
We had earlier mentioned adding visual indicators on the top surface, here is the progress on that:
We have the first round of prototyping done. The tech is working just fine. However, we need to work on the aesthetics side of it to improve the user experience.
First demo with slit transparent cut. -
This is the first prototype and results were not at par. We tried different types of materials and cuts for the top surface to see which one would diffuse the lights perfectly.
The electronics circuit and component have been finalised but there are still some aesthetic issues as mentioned below:
Diffusion slits/cut for led - There are circular cuts and rectangular slit cuts with both transparent and diffused material. However, the size of the rectangle and diameter of circular cuts seems too big.
Our aim is that the user should be able to see it as a normal wooden chessboard. The cuts/slits should not be visible unless the light is on.
So the next step is to make a sample with a smaller size of rectangular and circular cuts to make sure that light diffuses out subtly and should not distract the player while playing. We will be putting the graphic layer on the lop of it such that these cuts are not visible to the user.
